From January to March, grey whales give birth in the lagoons of Guerrero Negro and San Ignacio, where they can be approached by panga.
In the days before Lent, La Paz parades along its malecón to music, with floats and stages by the bay.
In August, the wine estates of the valley, near Ensenada, open their cellars for dinners and tastings among the vines.
From October to April, whale sharks come to feed in the Bay of La Paz; swimming with them requires a permit and a guide.
