Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm)
Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm), in a few days
Fifty-six square kilometres of rolling meadows between 1,680 and 2,350 metres in the Dolomites, often described as Europe's largest high-altitude alpine pasture. The road is closed to cars during the day and the plateau is served by shuttle buses and chairlifts. You walk for hours on near-level paths, with the Sassolungo ahead and the twin peaks of the Sciliar behind.

Flavours & local habits
🍽️ Worth tasting
- Neapolitan pizza: soft dough, wood fire, and best eaten in Naples.
- Regional pasta: carbonara in Rome, ragu in Bologna, and never the same twice.
- Gelato: artisan ice cream. Walk past the tubs piled high and glowing.
- Aperitivo: a spritz and small plates at the end of the afternoon.
- Espresso: standing at the bar, and no cappuccino after a meal.
⚠️ Best avoided
- Restaurants with photo menus and a man outside waving you in, especially near the monuments.
- Check the bill for coperto and service before you add anything.
- Cappuccino after midday marks you out. An espresso works at any hour.
- Shoulders and knees covered in churches, and that includes the big ones.
