The Kuching waterfront
The capital of Sarawak stretches along a bend in the river, with a redeveloped promenade linking the Chinese markets to buildings from the era of the White Rajahs. Opposite, the Astana built in 1870 for Charles Brooke and Fort Margherita from 1879 can be reached by traditional rowing boat for a few ringgits. The Chinese History Museum, the shops of Carpenter Street and the cat statues that gave the city its nickname round off the walk.

Altitude of the stops

The route changes altitude markedly from one stop to the next: from 0 m to 3 951 m. So you know in advance where you'll feel short of breath, and where you won't notice a thing.

Altitudes measured at each stop (Open-Meteo, Copernicus terrain model). Above 2 500 m, the body starts to feel the lack of oxygen: these stops are flagged. If in doubt, talk to your doctor before you leave.
