Good to know before you go

🍽️ What to eat
  • Mansaf: lamb with rice and fermented yoghurt, the national dish.
  • Falafel and hummus, eaten from morning to night.
  • Maqluba: rice, chicken and vegetables turned out upside down at the table.
  • Kunafa: hot stretchy cheese under shredded pastry and syrup.
  • Tea with sage, or tea with mint.
⚠️ What to avoid
  • Buy the Jordan Pass before you land: it covers the visa and Petra entry.
  • Haggle calmly, and turn down guides who attach themselves to you at the gate.
  • Cover shoulders and knees at religious sites.
  • Bottled water, and more of it than you think in the desert.
